How can I determine whether Task Scheduler is available on my computer?

A. The Task Scheduler interface works in conjunction with the standard scheduler service, which is accessible using the AT command (or the SOON command if you're using the resource kit). However, the command syntax can sometimes be complex, so Microsoft added a new, more-intuitive Task Scheduler GUI.

Task Scheduler comes with Windows 2000 and later OSs. If you see a Scheduled Task icon in the Windows Control Panel

Task Scheduler is installed on your machine. To use Task Scheduler under Windows NT 4.0, you must first install Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 4.0 or later and install additional components by performing the following steps:

  1. Start the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet (go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs).
  2. Select Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or 5.
  3. Click Change/Remove.
  4. Select "Add a component."
  5. If you're using IE 4.0, select Task Scheduler under Additional Explorer Enhancements. If you're using IE 5.0, select the Offline Browsing Pack.
