This week's questions cover topics for Exam 70-215: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 200 Server.

Questions (March 15, 2002)

Question 1
You installed several printers on a print server, Prntsrv15, and made the server a member of the nwtraders.msft domain. You want to administer the printers from a Web browser, but you don't want to have to remember the share name for each printer. Which URL can you use to access the printers without knowing the share names? (Choose the best answer.)

  1. http://Prntsrv15/.printer
  2. http://Prntsrv15/printer
  3. http://Prntsrv15/printers
  4. http://www.nwtraders.msft/Prntsrv15/.printer
  5. http://www.nwtraders.msft/Prntsrv15/printer
  6. http://www.nwtraders.msft/Prntsrv15/printers

Question 2
Your network has three servers running Windows 2000 Server and one server running Novell NetWare 4.11. The network has two subnets, Subnet A and Subnet B. All client computers run Windows 95 and have static IP addresses.

You recently installed a DHCP server on Subnet A and configured it with the appropriate information for the router, DNS server, and WINS server. The router separating Subnet A from Subnet B isn't RFC-2131-compliant.

You plan to perform fresh installations of Win2K Professional on 10 computers on each subnet and use the default networking settings for all the new installations. If you don't perform any additional configuration on those machines, which of the following objectives will you meet? (Choose all that apply.)

  1. The Win2K Pro machines on Subnet A will be able to communicate with the Win2K Pro machines on Subnet B.
  2. The Win2K Pro machines on Subnet A will be able to communicate with other Win2K Pro machines on Subnet A.
  3. The Win2K Pro machines on Subnet A will be able to communicate with the NetWare server.
  4. The Win2K Pro machines on Subnet B will be able to communicate with other Win2K Pro machines on Subnet B.
  5. The Win2K Pro machines on Subnet B will be able to communicate with the NetWare server.

Question 3
You recently upgraded a Windows NT 4.0 Workstation machine to Windows 2000 Professional. The computer has two hard disks with two primary partitions on each disk. The computer's user runs several applications that perform many I/O operations. You want to optimize disk performance on this system and aren't concerned about fault tolerance. What steps should you take? (Choose all that apply.)

  1. Convert the disks from basic disks to dynamic disks.
  2. Convert the disks to the FAT file system.
  3. Create a mirrored volume across the disks.
  4. Create a RAID-5 volume across the disks.
  5. Create a spanned volume across the disks.
  6. Create a striped volume across the disks.

Answers (March 15, 2002)

Answer to Question 1
The correct answer is C—http://Prntsrv15/printers. To connect to a printer from a Web browser, launch the browser and, in the Address field, type

http://<PrintServerName>/printers

Choose the printer you want to connect to from the list that appears. If you know the printer name, you can connect to it directly using the format

http://<PrintServerName>/<PrinterName>

Answer to Question 2
The correct answers are B—The Win2K Pro machines on Subnet A will be able to communicate with other Win2K Pro machines on Subnet A; and D—The Win2K Pro machines on Subnet B will be able to communicate with other Win2K Pro machines on Subnet B.

By default, Win2K Pro clients use DHCP. Therefore, the clients on Subnet A will receive IP information for that subnet from the DHCP server. However, because no DHCP server exists on Subnet B and the router isn't RFC-2131-compliant, the Win2K Pro machines on Subnet B won't receive IP information from the DHCP server. Subnet B's Win2K Pro machines will assign themselves IP information through Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA). Computers that receive IP addresses through APIPA can communicate with other computers within the same subnet that have received IP addresses through APIPA but can't communicate with other machines. Because TCP/IP is the only networking protocol installed by default, none of the Win2K Pro machines will be able to communicate with the NetWare server.

Answer to Question 3
The correct answers are A—Convert the disks from basic disks to dynamic disks; and F—Create a striped volume across the disks. You need at least two dynamic disks to create a striped volume. Striped volumes substantially improve hard disk access speeds but don't provide any fault tolerance.
