When dinosaurs roamed the Earth, DBAs administering their respective RDBMSes had to also know about hardware as well as the operating system underneath. With changes in responsibilities over time, the modern DBA often times does not know as much as he or she should about core hardware and OS aspects to be able to successfully plan, deploy, administer, troubleshoot, and maintain their SQL Server solutions. Without this base knowledge, you could have deployments that are unreliable and perform poorly. This session’s goal is not to make you an expert, but to understand what you need to know and give you a solid foundation to be able to have the right conversations in the future.
