SQL Server 2012 In-Place Upgrade

Q: I have SQL Server 2012 installed on a Windows Server 2012 instance. Can I perform an in-place upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2?

A: Many applications don't support performing an in-place OS upgrade. However, SQL Server fully supports performing an in-place upgrade of the underlying OS. If you upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2, your SQL Server installation will be fully functional after afterwards.
