At this year’s PASS conference in Seattle, Microsoft announced the most important new features in the next release of SQL Server—SQL Server 2012 (formerly code-named "Denali"). There were some cool features like the AlwaysOn functionality that provides increased availability. However, one of my favorites was one of the most simple: support for SQL Server on Windows Server Core.
SQL Server is an infrastructure service and running on Server Core means less patching and less overhead which results in greater availability.
