The Latest Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 Released, Service Pack 2 Required

If you're a SharePoint 2010 administrator, you'll be happy to know that the latest Cumulative Update (CU) is available. A CU, of course, is truly cumulative in that it is a large hotfix that pulls together all previously released hotfixes into a single distribution. When customers need to apply the latest fixes, they only need the very latest CU. Microsoft used to label CU's with subsequent numbers (CU1, CU2, CU3, etc., etc.), but is now simply attributing each CU to the month it released. So, this release is the November 11, 2014 CU for SharePoint Server 2010.

For this latest release, it's important to recognize that Service Pack 1 for SharePoint 2010 is no longer supported and to install the November CU, Service Pack 2 is required. So, before upgrading to this month's CU release, you'll need to ensure Service Pack 2 is installed first. Most of you should have this installed already, but it never hurts to mention as a reminder.

A list of the issues fixed and additional installation guidance, along with the download information is available in the associated KB Article. You can find that here: November 11, 2014 Cumulative Update for SharePoint Server 2010 package
