Every once in awhile someone comes up with an idea that is, in my opinion, BRILLIANT. Last week, Dux Raymond Sy--well-known for his high-energy and high-value keynotes and sessions at SharePoint events, as well as for his SharePoint flash mobs and uncanny resemblance to musician Psy of "Gangham Style" fame--came up with just such a brilliant idea.
On November 8, the Philippines was devasted by Typhoon Haiyan. 10 million people across 40 provinces in the 7,000-island chain have been affected. Over half a million have been displaced. And the death toll will be well north of 10,000. The scope of destruction is unimaginable... The largest storm in recorded history delivered a blow greater than Katrina and Sandy combined.
To rally the SharePoint community to participate in relief efforts, Dux brokered a phenomenal offer. If you make a donation of at least $99 to a charity that is supporting relief in the Philippines, you get an hour of SharePoint consulting in return.
And not just "any old" SharePoint consulting, but time with the best and brightest in the industry, including yours truly, and almost every person I consider on my "A list" of who I personally turn to when I need questions answered. Even folks from the Microsoft product group are on the list of "experts"! How often do you get to ask your questions about Office 365 or SharePoint to the likes of Mark Kashman? WOW!
For each $99 donation, you get an hour with any one of the experts, each of whom have donated a number of hours of our time to the effort. So if you donate $198, you get two hours, etc.
I can't tell you just how happy I am to be included with this stellar group of people on the "consultant" side of the offer. It is so rare that I get to do direct, real good with my work and, by the way, I'm looking for more ways to "do good" when my availability allows!
But as happy as I am personally to be involved, I'm more happy that Dux stepped up, saw a need, and utilized one of his many valuable assets--his network of peers--to craft this amazing solution to a very real problem. Hats off to ya, Dux!!!!
