5 SharePoint Answers: Matt McDermott on Search and More

Preview of 2014 IT/Dev Connections Conference

We asked these 5 questions of SharePoint expert Matt McDermott and fetched these 5 answers.

#1: What do you think is challenging and/or important for people to learn about SharePoint/Office 365?

If you are a developer and interested in creating applications for SharePoint that use list, document, BCS, or people data, you need to know search. Search has so many features and is so poorly understood.

#2: What advice would you give new attendees for getting the most out of a tech conference?

Have a Plan B for every session, pace yourself at night, and drink a lot of water.

#3: What do you drink at SharePint?

Guinness!!

#4: What are you most looking forward to at September’s IT/Dev Connections?

Meeting up with the speakers and talking to the attendees about what challenges them.

#5: Give us the “elevator pitch” about your presentations--what are you going to talk about?

These sessions show how you can get real value from SharePoint Search. The “Developers Approach to Search Apps” session will show you the fundamentals.

In “SharePoint 2013 Search: Display Templates and Query Rules,” you’ll see the coolest 2 search features that you're not using. This is a demo-rich session showing you how to use these 2 great features.
