Windows Installer Error Brought on by August Security Update Gets a Fix

In August of this year Microsoft released a security update to fix a vulnerability in the Windows Installer service that could allow elevation of privilege during MSI package installations. Unfortunately, the vulnerability patch also brought with it a potential problem where MSI package installations would fail and suggest that a temporary user profile was being used or that the profile was corrupt.

Microsoft has now supplied a Hotfix to patch up the problem brought on by the August security update, bringing the issue full circle.

The Hotfix is available here:

KB3000988: "The profile for the user is a temporary profile" error when you install a MSI package in Windows
