Survey Says: Half Of Consumers Are Clueless About Security

National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) polled approximately 2,250 consumers between the ages of 18 and 65 and discovered that a large majority have never heard of botnets and nearly half have no idea how to protect their computers.

"It is alarming that consumers do not know how to secure their computers," said Ron Teixeira, executive director of the NCSA.

According to the poll results, 71 percent have never heard of botnets, 47 percent don't think it's possible for someone to hijack their computer and use it to launch attacks, and 48 percent don't know how to protect their computers and themselves in cyberspace.
