SonicWALL announced that the Santa Barbara Police Department (SBPD) has selected the company's firewall and VPN appliances to protect the SBPD network and communications between remote offices for some 230 offsite law enforcement employees. SBPD will use SonicWALL's TELE3, PRO, and SOHO appliances to build a secure communications network.
A spokesperson for SonicWALL said, "At its remote offices, the SBPD has deployed SonicWALL TELE3 security appliances with integrated Virtual Private Networking (VPN) for secure connections back to SBPD headquarters. At headquarters, one SonicWALL PRO isolates the internal local-area network (LAN) from a large, two-county, wide-area network (WAN) and concentrates the VPN connections. A second SonicWALL PRO provides controlled access to the Internet. A SonicWALL SOHO provides network address translation (NAT) required to access secure Department of Justice databases on a State-wide WAN."
"The Department of Justice (DOJ) has strict requirements for Internet security, mandating that any government agency network connected to the Internet must have a firewall certified by the International Computer Security Associations (ICSA)," said David Straede, systems analyst, Santa Barbara Police Department. "We selected SonicWALL Internet security appliances based upon their reliability and ease of deployment."
