The Removable Media Threat

A new study shows that removeable media (such as Flash drives, etc) is a growing security concern. In their study, Centennial Software found that 4 out of 5 companies don't have effective measures in place to protect against the threat posed by removable media devices.

But what about more subtle methods of stealing information? If you ban the ability to plug anything into a USB port there's still email that can be obscured to evade filtering technologies, and the same thing can happen by submitting stolen information to an outside Web site. And then there's cell phones, which today can let you take pictures, which brings up the risk of having digital cameras in the work place - not to mention any number of different audio recording devices.

The challenge to secure infromation never ends...
