Prevent Windows 2000 Upgrade From Overwriting Custom Security Settings

When you upgrade a Windows NT system to Windows 2000, the security settings for the new installation are defined in one of two configuration template files: dwup.inf for Win2K Professional and dsup.inf for Win2K Server. To prevent the upgrade from overwriting any custom security settings, you must modify the appropriate template file using the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). Be sure to visit our Windows 2000 FAQ Web site where you'll find step-by-step instructions.
