MPAA University Toolkit

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) offers universities as "toolkit" that supposedly helps them police their networks to discover people illegally downloading movies. Leaving aside the question of whether turning universities in the MPAA's personal police force is a good idea, one question university network administrators might ask themselves is whether the toolkit works?

Richard Bejtlich took a closer look at the toolkit, which is actually a bootable CD that runs Linux, Snort, and some other tools. Head over to Tao Security and review his findings to get a better idea how easy it would be to evade detection by the toolkit.
