Microsoft revealed one of the security enhancements that will become a standard part of Internet Explorer 8.
IE 7 included a feature to turn on Data Execution Prevention (DEP) however the settings was turned off by default. Eric Lawrence of IE's security team wrote in the company's blog that IE 8 will make that setting enabled by default on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista SP1 and later.
DEP helps prevent malicious code from running on a system by marking memory pages as non-executable.
