Optimal Performance with Multiple Data Files and Multiple CPUs

SQL Server MVP Chuck Boyce, who keeps a great podcasting blog called "The WHERE Clause", was on a hunt for resources about using multiple data files to take advantage of multiple CPUs. I thought I'd share his findings here:

First Chuck mentioned, Jose Barreto's blog entry on this topic as well as the seminal BOL topic called "Optimizing tempdb Performance". He also pointed out the Microsoft.com Standard Server Configurations guidelines , which are considered very good for Windows 2000 Server (though somewhat less good for Windows 2003 Server).

However, the new goldmine that you need to be aware of, pointed out by MVP Hilary Cotter, is a new white paper about SQL Server disk subsystems. Be sure to add this to your list of must-have documents.

Download it today!
