Mainstream support for SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 ended on July 8, 2014. Microsoft is encouraging customers to execute on upgrades and/or sustained engineering plans as soon as possible for both the SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 versions. By remaining current on versions, you'll ensure that your product remains supported per the Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy.
Microsoft will continue to provide technical support, including security updates, for both SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 until July 9, 2019—when extended support ends.
