Redesigned Magazine Is a Huge Improvement

The redesigned SQL Server Magazine is a huge improvement. While I appreciate the change in color and layout, the real improvement is in the chaff-to-wheat ratio. I read the first 39 pages of the October issue and was impressed with the quality of each article and that I never had to view a Web listing to make sense of the information. I can't remember the last time I read that far into an issue of SQL Server Magazine without a single complaint. The articles were excellent and to the point.

However, just to be fair, the Buyer's Guide table in "Database Design Tools" (October 2007, InstantDoc ID 96845) was online. For me, it's not such a big issue for the Buyer's Guide to be online, but it's a huge issue when articles from Itzik Ben-Gan, for example, don't include code in the magazine. I don't read the magazine while sitting in front of a computer. Also, it would be helpful if the Buyer's Guide included reviews of the products. I'd like to know from someone first-hand if the product is really as revolutionary as the manufacturer promises it is.

Keep up the great work and I'll happily renew my subscription each year.

Redesigned Magazine Is Hard on the Eyes

Over the years I have really enjoyed reading SQL Server Magazine, and I look forward to it every month. However, I was saddened when I opened up the October issue and saw the new look. The font selection coupled with the wide empty borders that compress the two columns of text make the magazine difficult to read. It's very hard on the eyes.

Editors' note: After seeing the October issue, we realized that the articles were hard to read. So, starting with the November issue, we used a different font and have been trying to utilize white-space better. Let us know if the new font and better white-space usage works for you.
