BackOffice ERP & Beyond - 22 Mar 2000

Welcome to the fifth annual BackOffice supplement. This year, we changed the name of the supplement from "BackOffice Accounting" to "BackOffice ERP." The name change reflects the fact that most of the business management application suites now running on the Microsoft BackOffice technology platform cover a wider functional scope than just financial accounting, which has become largely a commodity application—the differences between financial suites' core accounting modules so minor that buyers look for value in other areas.

BackOffice: ERP & Beyond highlights business management applications designed to run on the BackOffice technology platform. The core technology components of BackOffice 4.5 are the Windows NT Server 4.0 OS and the Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 relational database management system (RDBMS).

The buyer's guide includes a representative list of ERP application suites that can run on NT Server systems and store their data in SQL Server databases.
