Q. What are the costs of ExpressRoute?
A. There are a number of different costs related to using ExpressRoute to connect to Azure services from on-premises:
- The Microsoft ExpressRoute charge which is outlined at https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/expressroute/. Prices vary based on location, speed and if it is metered (you pay for egress data) or unmetered (unlimited egress included)
- Egress data charges if you have a metered ExpressRoute connection
- Gateways in Azure to connect to the ExpressRoute
- Charges from the actual service provider which will include recurring and potential initial setup costs. The Azure ExpressRoute charge does not include the charges for the actual service provider which will be billed separately
When pricing ExpressRoute you will need to work with both Microsoft and the service provider to calculate the exact costs and to get service installed.
