Q. Does the Azure Software Load Balancer perform SSL offload?
A. No, the software load balancer can balance various types of traffic and is not application aware, e.g. HTTP. Microsoft has the Azure Application Gateway which is a layer-7, application aware load balancing solution. Because the Azure Application Gateway is layer-7 it supports SSL offload removing the computational overhead associated with HTTPS and SSL.
