Xbox 360 Motion Controller? Gates Says, 'Been There, Done That'

With news arriving recently that both Sony and Nintendo will ship motion-sensitive controllers for their next-generation video game consoles, you might rightly wonder whether Microsoft will offer such a thing for the Xbox 360. Put simply, no. Microsoft chairman Bill Gates says motion-sensitive controllers are so 1990s. "There's room for innovation here, but moving that controller around ... it's something that's not mainstream for most games," he said at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) gaming conference recently, noting that Microsoft had previously released a motion-sensitive controller for Windows. "It's tough because sometimes you just want to put the controller down; you don't want to fly into the ground. People aren't that good at totally standing still. Even pilots actually sit in a chair when they do their flying. So there's a lot to be learned about these controllers." As in, not making them, apparently
