Windows Phone 8.1 Gets a Microsoft Remote Desktop Update

Over the July 4th holiday, Microsoft updated the Remote Desktop Preview app for Windows Phone 8.1.

It's nice to see Windows Phone 8.1 getting some additional features, considering that the app released first for Android, iOS, and Mac OS X. With Windows Phone 8.1 official signed-off and headed to the carriers for rollout, it's possible that the new platform version will see updates as quickly as the non-Microsoft platforms. We'll see.

The update is available in the Windows Phone store HERE, and includes the following updates:

  • NETBIOS name resolution – makes it easier to locate remote computers on the local network
  • Better on-screen keyboard scaling – improves the keyboarding experience by making the keyboard resize automatically to fit the specific screen size

Of course, if you are running Windows Phone 8.1 and have configured the OS to auto-install updates, you don't have to do anything else.

In addition to Android, iOS, and Mac OS X, Remote Desktop is available for Windows 8.1.
