Why won't my computer boot after I installed the drivers for my Creative Labs Live!Ware sound card?

A. If you installed Live!Ware drivers for Windows NT or earlier versions, your Windows 2000 machine might not boot and might display the following error:

STOP: 0x0000001E KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error

To work around this problem, perform the following steps:

  1. Press F8 when you boot the machine to display the options menu.
  2. Select "Safe mode with command prompt."
  3. Move to the %systemroot%\system32 folder.
  4. Rename the ctmm32.dll file, changing the extension to .old (i.e., ctmm32.old).
  5. Reboot the machine in Normal mode.
  6. Download and install the latest Windows 2000 drivers.
