Why does the system ignore my ExcludeProfileDirs when the entry is more than 260 characters?

A. In the FAQ How can I stop certain folders being replicated as part of the user profile?, we explored how to stop certain areas of a profile from replicating when you use roaming profiles. A problem in Windows 2000 causes the ExcludeProfileDirs entry to be set to null if the entry is longer than 260 characters. To address this problem, check the value at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ExcludeProfileDirs to ensure that it is less than 260 characters. Or you can modify your system policy, as described in the referenced FAQ.
