What's the new Recover Mailbox Data feature in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)?

A. Exchange 2003 SP1 introduces the Recover Mailbox Data feature for retrieving data from mailboxes in the Recovery Storage Group. Typically, you'd use the ExMerge tool to retrieve data from the Recovery Storage Group; however, the Recover Mailbox Data feature makes the task much simpler and doesn't require the user performing the data restoration to have special Send As and Receive As rights, as ExMerge requires. To recover data by using the Recover Mailbox Data feature, perform these steps:

  1. Start the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Exchange System Manager (ESM) snap-in (Start, Programs, Microsoft Exchange, System Manager). Right-click the user whose mailbox is currently available within the Recovery Storage Group and select Exchange Tasks from the context menu.
  2. Select Recover Mailbox Data and click Next.
  3. ESM detects the user's regular mailbox store and selects it as the default location for restoring the data from the Recovery Storage Group. Click Next. You can determine the mailbox's location by looking at the mailbox's msExchOrigMDB attribute.
  4. ESM prompts you to select how you want to recover the data. You can either merge the data into the existing mailbox or copy the data into a special recovery folder (the folder will be created at the root of the Inbox folder named "Recovered Data
