A. The Windows 2000 MultiLanguage Version is a Win2K Professional, Server, and Advanced Server add-on that lets one Win2K installation display menus and dialog boxes in different languages. This add-on eliminates the need to install language-specific Win2K versions, simplifying a global Win2K roll-out, especially in multilingual organizations. The add-on is especially useful on Win2K Server Terminal Services servers because each remote connection can then use a different set of menus and dialog boxes!
A system running the Win2K MultiLanguage Version will look and behave much like the local version except that the following items remain in the "master" language of the system: all 16-bit code, bitmaps, registry keys and values, folders and file names, and INF files.
To use the Win2K MultiLanguage Version, install Win2K as usual, then perform the following steps:
- Insert the MultiLanguage File Installation CD-ROM.
- The file installation should run automatically; if it doesn't, run muisetup.exe on the root of the CD-ROM.
- Check the languages you want to install (Microsoft will add more languages in the future):
- Chinese (Simplified)
- Chinese (Traditional)
- Dutch
- English
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean
- Spanish
- Swedish
- Select the default language for current and new users.

- Click OK.
- Muisetup.exe will install additional fonts, dictionaries, help files, and DLLs.
- Click OK in response to the "Installation complete" message.
- Click Yes to reboot the system. Any problems will be logged to the %systemroot%\muisetup.log file (in the current language).
