Is the TV Screen the Center of the Future Connected Home?

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has released a new standard aimed at letting you control audio and video components throughout your house from a TV screen and one remote control. The new technology, which the group has creatively dubbed CEA-2027, uses Web-like HTTP commands to provide access and control of devices such as computers and digital video recorders (DVRs). The first release requires devices to connect via FireWire, but more standard Ethernet support will be added shortly. CEA says its approach is unique because manufacturers will be able to use the standard while maintaining all the functionality and branding of their product. Manufacturers will also be able to fully customize the UI on the TV screen. Hey, it's always nice to see the connected home idea progress. Let's see if any companies pick up on it
