The tech emergency kit: How to stay connected during a disaster

Living as I do in earthquake country, I have a disaster prep kit in the car, another in the house, and go-bags for everyone in the family. But until very recently, I focused only on the old-school essentials: food, water, heat, sanitation and Trivial Pursuit card packs for whiling away the hours.

This Christmas, I'm giving the family the gift of a gadget emergency kit. This should allow us to use our phones as short-range walkie talkies, keep the laptop powered so we can access the first-aid PDFs I have as backups (or hit up the household inventory file should we lose everything and need to deal with our insurance company), and get back online before we all get too testy over who shot first, Han or Greedo?

Here's what is on the wishlist.
