A. If your portable has full Advanced Power Management (or APM) but does not have a battery in it then standby will not be available. Options to hibernate and power-off will still be available however. This is be design and is caused by the standby vector in Ntapm.sys is disabled on any computer that does not have a battery.
If you do have a battery and you don't have the option it may be your computer is not APM compliant or it is not correctly configured. Check with the computer manufacturer.
