Removing formatting from a document

To remove directly-applied font formatting:

  • Press Ctrl+Space.

    All directly-applied font formatting and any font style is removed. The text will reflect the font formatting of the underlying paragraph style.

To remove directly-applied paragraph formatting:

  • Press Ctrl+Q.

    All directly-applied paragraph formatting is removed. The paragraph will use paragraph formatting of the underlying paragraph style.

     

To remove all directly-applied formatting and styles:

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+N.

    All directly-applied formatting and styles are removed. The Normal paragraph style is applied.

    The Clear Formatting option in the Styles and Formatting task pane is the equivalent of Ctrl+Shift+N.

To remove all formatting from an entire document, do one of the following:

  • Press Ctrl+A (select all), then Ctrl+Shift+N (apply Normal style; or click Clear Formatting in the Styles and Formatting task pane).
  • Copy the entire document. Start a new document and choose Edit → Paste Special. In the Paste Special dialog box, choose Unformatted Text.

Plain text

  • No HTML tags allowed.
  • Web page addresses and e-mail addresses turn into links automatically.
  • Lines and paragraphs break automatically.
