Q. When you use the CA (Certification Authority) MMC (Microsoft Management Console) snap-in to filter the CA database, the snap-in hangs (stops responding)?

When the CA database contains more than 1.2 million certificates on you Windows Server 2003, and the .edb file has grown to at least 7 gigabytes, the CA MMC snap-in stops responding (hangs).

NOTE: This behavior may occur after you define a filter or when you switch between CA MMC folders.

To workaround this behavior, DO NOT use the CA MMC snap-in for filtering, use the certutil.exe command-line tool:

certutil -view -restrict RequesterName=<domain\UserName>
