Q. The Office XP Ctfmon.exe program continues to run in the background after exiting all Office applications?

The Ctfmon.exe program activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor and the Microsoft Office Language Bar.

To prevent the Ctfmon.exe program from running:

01. Quit all Office programs.

02. Open the Add/Remove Programs or Add or Remove Programs applet in Control Panel.

03. Select the Microsoft Office XP product you wish to configure and press Change.

04. In the Maintenance Mode Option dialog, select Add or Remove Features and press Next.

05. Press the plus sign (+) next to Office Shared Features and expand it.

06. Press the Alternative User Input icon and select Not Available.

07. Press Update.

NOTE: If you have additional Office Products installed, like Publisher, repeat the above steps for each.

08. In Control Panel double-click Text Services, or for Windows XP, Select the Language tab in Regional and Language Options and press Details.

09. Select each input item listed under Installed Services and press Remove. You must remove all items except English (United States)- default Keyboard United States 101.

10. Open a CMD.EXE window.

11. Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each line:

Regsvr32.exe /s /u msimtf.dll
Regsvr32.exe /s /u Msctf.dll
