Q. How can I force a refresh of the Desired Configuration Management (DCM) state?

A. DCM state is sent as status messages rather than as part of any policy or inventory, so you can't remotely force an update of DCM state. One option to get faster updates (for example, in demo environments) is to change the state message reporting cycle from the default of 15 minutes to a smaller value (such as each minute). You can do this by:

  1. Launch the Configuration Manager Console.
  2. Expand Site Management, , Site Settings, Client Agents.
  3. Right-click Computer Client Agent and select Properties.
  4. Modify the State messages value and click OK.

DCM State Message Time

You can check when a client has sent a state message by viewing the StateMessage.log file, which is found in the C:\Windows\System32\CCM\Logs folder (or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\CCM\Logs folder on 64-bit systems).
