PCs, A/V Components Set to Merge

The Digital Home Working Group (DHWG) said this week that it's on track to ship specifications in June that will permit PCs and consumer electronics A/V equipment to interoperate over home networks. The specifications will let next-generation consumer electronics devices to share photos, videos, and music over high-speed networking equipment with PCs, the organization says. A second set of specs, due in late 2004, will include more advanced functionality. For example, you'll be able to pause an operation (e.g., video playback) in one room and resume it in another. This development sounds very exciting, and it can't happen fast enough
