Onkyo Pushes AV Receiver Boundaries

Onkyo Professional announced the TX-NR901P, an HDTV- and network-capable AV receiver for studio and commercial use. The THX Select-certified TX-NR901P delivers 110 watts to each of seven channels and includes a full suite of multichannel digital audio-processing capabilities. The receiver also features Onkyo's Net-Tune technology for Ethernet distributed audio, Powered Zone 2 capability, and an all-channel stereo mode for driving as many as three pairs of stereo speakers.

Onkyo's Net-Tune technology uses a standard TCP/IP Ethernet connection to connect the receiver with music files stored on a central PC library or to play Internet radio streams over a broadband Internet connection. The receiver's on-screen display shows song title, artist, album, genre, and playlist information, simplifying access to extremely large music collections and playlists. By simultaneously coupling as many as 11 Net-Tune clients to one library through a local area network, you can create an easy-to-use and easily expandable distributed audio system.

On the video side, the TX-NR901P provides professional-grade HDTV component-video switching and up-conversion to component video for seamless compatibility with vintage video sources. This latter feature converts composite and S-Video signals into a component-video output for optimal video quality and on-screen-menu support with the use of modern component video projectors and displays.

The receiver includes an array of multizone features, such as Onkyo's Powered Zone 2, which lets you use the rear surround channel amplifiers or an external power amplifier to drive a set of stereo speakers in another room. The TX-NR901P also includes onboard processing for all major surround-sound formats, including THX Surround EX 7.1, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-ES, and DTS Neo:6. The receiver also features the company's exclusive Wide Rage Amplifier Technology (WRAT) and Pure Audio function for superb reproduction of stereo sources.

The Onkyo TX-NR901P costs $1549.
