NEWS: HP, Intel Announce Chip Flaws

HP will replace the memory chips in about 900,000 Compaq and HP notebook computers due to a design flaw, according to a Reuters report. The report also stated that Intel, the world's number one chip maker, is recalling an unspecified number of chipsets that it released earlier this week because the company found a manufacturing flaw that could lead computers using the chipset to malfunction. Although desktop, notebook, and low-end server PC sales are forecasted to rise 13.5 percent this year, the recalls could—though not significantly—affect demand as users think twice before they buy. HP and Intel's simultaneous announcements about chip flaws are not related
