Networking: It's Not Just for Businesses Anymore

Back when I first wired my home for 10 Mbps Ethernet, the response from friends and business associates was that I must be some sort of uber technogeek. Now, the soccer moms I meet at my son's Cub Scout meetings are talking about broadband access and connection sharing at home. Suddenly, I've become mainstream!

That shift is the core reason for the existence of Connected Home EXPRESS. We know that the technology and gadgets from the business environment have made or are making their way into the home environment—many through the small office/home office (SOHO) conduit. And we've found that those of us who work with this stuff for a living also tend to play with it at home—along with the latest digital hardware in a lot of related areas, such as home theater, music, and digital imaging.

Connected Home EXPRESS will bring you up-to-date information about what's available for your connected home and give you ideas, instructions, and hands-on guides to configuring, implementing, and tying together all the digital devices making their way into your life. We're not simply writing about the connected home; we're living in it. Everyone with a byline in this newsletter is actually doing what they're writing about. You won't find any disconnected-from-reality reviews or editorials here. We deal with connected home concerns everyday and will pass along our experiences and solutions to you.

Connected Home EXPRESS will cover the areas of Home Networking, Mobile, Photo, and Video, Home Theater, Music, Multimedia and Gaming, and SOHO. What areas are of the most interest to you, and what specific items would you like to see us cover. Just drop me a note at [email protected] and tell me about your connected home and what you'd like to see here.
