As it has so many times in the past, Microsoft today issued some Surface firmware updates alongside its monthly Patch Tuesday security fixes. This month's set of updates includes updates for Surface 2, Surface RT, and Surface Pro, but not Surface Pro 2, with a big focus on Surface 2.

Surface 2 firmware improvements
Update includes these firmware and performance improvements:
- Performance improvements for all Type Cover and Touch Cover versions
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth driver updates to improve wireless display performance
- Camera improvements
- Audio improvements including switching to speaker playback after disconnecting a headset
- System performance and stability improvements
- Battery life improvements
Surface RT firmware improvements
Update includes these firmware and performance improvements on Windows 8 only:
- Update to allow the use of Japanese Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2
Note: There is no update on Surface RT with Windows 8.1.
Surface Pro firmware improvements
Update includes these firmware and performance improvements:
Windows 8:
- Update to allow the use of Japanese Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2
Windows 8.1:
- Update to the LifeCam driver to increase TrueColor fidelity
- Update to the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers to enable improved wireless display performance and to further enhance Wi-Fi network performance and stability
