Microsoft Offering Limited, Free In-Store Support, Even If You Purchased Elsewhere

What normally might cost around $200 at a Best Buy, Microsoft is now offering free in-store support for those users who believe they have software or malware issues.

Of course, the company also offers additional, paid support options like hardware upgrades and installs, applications installs, and Windows 8.1 upgrades, but for the price of just stepping up to the service desk, a Microsoft representative is authorized to do the following for free:

  • Extended diagnostics on any device
  • Software repair or support
  • Virus and malware removal
  • PC tune-ups for increased performance

Whether you bought your PC from Microsoft or obtained it elsewhere, Microsoft’s Answer Desk experts are available to service you.

To me, this sounds like a great opportunity for IT staff to offload some more tedious work. If you suspect malware or misbehaving applications, locate a Microsoft store local to the traveling business user and send them packing. Of course, one could also make use of the free service to better manage those family members that request free support day and night.
