Microsoft has announced that it will integrate parts of FastLane Technologies' migration software into its NetWare to Windows 2000 (Win2K) migration package. This package, called Microsoft Services for NetWare 5.0, is Microsoft's attempt to ease the journey from Novell NetWare to Win2K. As part of its migration package, Microsoft is offering FastLane DM/Consolidator, one of FastLane DM/Suite's five applications. Microsoft Group Product Manager Peter Houston compared Microsoft's migration package to other third-party packages, such as Entevo's DirectManage. He said, "This technology specifically addresses NetWare file migration—other ISVs have focused on user migration. It will be integrated with Services for NetWare 5.0 to provide consistent user experiences and ensure consistent mappings of users, security groups, and access rights between NetWare and Windows 2000." Houston explained that FastLane's technology "accelerates the migration process, preserves file access-control information, eliminates possible security breaches, and simplifies migration through a centralized console wizard-drive process." Two utilities within Services for NetWare will use the FastLane technology: Microsoft File Migration Utility and Microsoft Directory Synchronization Services. Microsoft Services for NetWare 5.0 will be available soon after Win2K's release. Houston said that he expects the company will price the software similarly to Services for NetWare 4.0, which costs $149.
