JSI Tip 9798. You receive an error after you ugrade iSCSI Initiator version 1.06 to version 2.0 and then uninstall iSCSI Initiator version 2.0?

If you upgrade your Windows Server using iSCSI Initiator version 1.06 to version 2.0, and subsequently uninstall iSCSI Initiator version 2.0, you receive:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753.

Your Application Event log may record:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MsiInstaller
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10005
Date: MM/DD/YYYY
Time: HH:MM:SS
User: <User Name>

Description: Product: Microsoft iSCSI Initiator -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753. The arguments are: _6F676F21B2C24BB6B1C01E2FF6B74AEB

This behavior will occur if the iSCSI Initiator registry keys are properly restored.

If this problem has already occurred:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Using REG.EXE built into Windows Server 2003, or installed from the Support Tools on the Windows 2000 Server installation CD-ROM,
type REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\iSCSI" /F and press Enter.

To prevent the problem if you haven't upgraded to iSCSI version 2.0 yet, use Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs to uninstall iSCSI Initiator version 1.06 before you install iSCSI Initiator version 2.0.

NOTE: Download the Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator Osaka Users Guide.

NOTE: For a different iSCSI problem, see You may be unable to start the computer after you modify the iSCSI Install package in Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2000 Server.
