In March of 2004, the European Commission found Microsoft guilty of breaking the European Union competition law. As a result, Microsoft was forced to deliver a new version of Windows without WMP (Windows Media Player).
Available only in Europe, Windows XP Professional N edition has the same functionality as Windows XP Professional with SP2 (Service Pack 2), except WMP is NOT included.
