Windows 2000 may not recognize a CD or DVD drive under any of the following conditions:
- The drive is powered on after the computer is started.
- The drive is connected after the computer is started.
- The drive is connected while a disc is in the drive.
To workaround this behavior, use any of the following:
- Disconnect and re-connect the drive.
- Restart your computer.
- Power on the drive before you power on the computer..
- Make sure that there is no disc in the drive when you power it on.
