JSI Tip 8851. You are unable capture a MPEG stream from a video device in Windows Movie Maker?

When you attempt to use Windows Movie Maker to capture video from a TV tuner adaptor, a digital video camera, a VCR, a DVD player, etc.., the video device is NOT listed in Available devices in the Video Capture Wizard dialog, OR you get unpredictable results, like missing video or missing audio.

This behavior occurs because Windows Movie Maker (all versions up to an including 2.1) does NOT support video capture from devices that only use an MPEG stream.

NOTE: If the device only supports MPEG output, it will NOT be displayed in Available devices.
