JSI Tip 8838. Windows Server 2003 tells you to 'replace your hard disk drive' even if another device failure is imminent?

When using a storage device, you receive:

The driver has detected that device <Device Name> has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.

This error can be misleading.

The error may be due to a tape drive, other storage device, or a hard disk.

If you receive this error when using a tape drive, or other storage device, make sure you take appropriate action to save your data, and determine if you must replace the media and/or drive.
