JSI Tip 8690. You cannot manage licenses on Windows Server 2003 and the License Logging service cannot find the domain controller?

When you attempt to use the License Logging service on Windows Server 2003, you may experience any of the following behaviors:

  • The License Logging service cannot find the domain controller.

  • You cannot manage licenses.

When the License Logging service starts, it attempts to find the domain controller. You may receive the following error:

ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN

Even if Llssrv.exe is running on a domain controller, you may experience this behavior due to a RPC (Remote Procedure Call) exception.

To workaround this behavior, restart the License Logging service.

NOTE: The License Logging service is NOT scheduled to be included in future versions of Windows.

NOTE: The License Logging service is disabled by default on Windows Server 2003.

NOTE: See How can I reset the License Logging service in Windows Server 2003?
