JSI Tip 8664. When you run the 'Adprep /forestprep' command on Windows Server 2003, you receive 'The procedure entry point SaferCreateLevel could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll'?

When you run the Adprep /forestprep command on a slipstream version of Windows Server 2003 that includes MS04-011: Security Update for Microsoft Windows, you receive:

The procedure entry point SaferCreateLevel could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll

NOTE: The error does NOT prevent the Adprep /forestprep command from running successfully.

This behavior occurs because Adprep.exe finds Schannel.dll at the install point, instead of using the correct version from the domain controller's %SystemRoot%\System32 folder.

If you wish to prevent this error, use either of the following:

• Use Compress.exe from the Resource kit to compress Schannel.dll at the install point to Schannel.dll.

• Rename Schannel.dll at the install point to Schannel.IPT.
