JSI Tip 8642. The Power button on an ACPI-compliant Windows 2000 computer forces an emergency shutdown?

In tip 3119, I described how to perform an emergency shutdown.

If Windows 2000 is installed on a computer whose BIOS is ACPI-compliant (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface), pressing the computer's power button causes Windows to perform an emergency shutdown.

An emergency shutdown does NOT send the WM_QUERYENDSESSION and WM_ENDSESSION messages to running programs, so they cannot notify the user to save data and exit gracefully.
