JSI Tip 8402. When you use Windows Update to install an update, you receive 'Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page'?


The subject problem can occur on Windows XP if the BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service), or Automatic Update, services are stopped.

To resolve this problem:

1. Start / Run / Services.msc / OK.

2. Double-click the Automatic Updates service.

3. Set the Startup type to Automatic and press Apply.

4. If the Service status is Stopped, press Start.

5. Press OK.

6. Double-click the Background Intelligent Transfer Service service.

7. Set the Startup type to Manual and press Apply.

8. If the Service status is Stopped, press Start.

9. Press OK.
